Universal Connections is a developed Love Beyond Belief, Inc. offering that creates small-group spaces where people can be fully themselves while deepening their connection with others.
Its central invitation is to experience belonging as relationship rather than conformity: being known without having to disappear, defend every feeling, or become someone else.
What happens in a group
Participants practice PDR&S: Pause, Discern, Reflect, and Share. This method invites people to slow down, notice their experience, consider its meaning, reflect before reacting, and share with care.
The practice cultivates our capacity for belonging without conformity, difference without dehumanization, honest expression without attack, and disagreement without disconnection.
Participants speak from their own lives, listen with compassionate attention, and avoid reducing one another to categories or arguments.
Topics may include:
Where belonging has felt available or conditional
What parts of ourselves have been hidden to preserve connection
How fear and defensiveness appear in our experience
How another person’s story affects our own
What it means to listen without fixing or debating
How deeper connection can shape life beyond the group
You don’t lose yourself to belong. You find yourself and flourish.
Who it is for
Universal Connections serves people seeking deeper self-understanding, spiritual exploration, attentive listening, and meaningful connection across difference. The practice is non-creedal; participants do not need to adopt a shared religious belief.
Groups may be explored with congregations, community organizations, or LBB. The format, schedule, participation arrangements, and availability of a particular offering are confirmed separately.
Developed course, future facilitator pathway
Universal Connections already has course and delivery resources. To date, Rev. Dr. Thandeka and Jennifer Jennings have designed and delivered the work themselves.
A separate facilitator-preparation pathway, along with its requirements, support arrangements, and authorization process, is now an important area of development.
Relationship to LBB’s emerging civic work
Universal Connections is an educational and community-based initiative, distinct from psychotherapy, diagnosis, treatment, or crisis support. Its experience in fostering self-awareness, attentive listening, and connection across difference informs Building the Emotional Infrastructure of Democracy, LBB’s new initiative in development, by by practicing a different way of being together: belonging without conformity, difference without dehumanization, honest expression without attack, and disagreement without disconnection. Universal Connections is a spiritual discipline for living more fully as ourselves while remaining deeply connected to one another.
